I've been buying Sony TVs for more than 30 years, and they rarely disappoint. The 40" Bravia is no exception. Last year I bought the 70" SXRD model for my living room, and the 40" is for the bedroom. Many televisions are high quality and prices are dropping, so why get the Sony?
Picture quality is excellent, especially in high def.
Sound quality is very good without a home theater setup. Not always the case with flat panel TVs with small bezels.
Remote is well laid out and easy to use (although it does lack backlighting, but I have no trouble finding the buttons I want in the dark). It's easy to change between the 4 programmable picture settings or screen aspect ratios. Sleep timer button is right up on top when your ready for bed and is in 15 minute increments.
It has 2 HDMI inputs for easy connection of compatible devices and several other inputs. You can customize the display to choose between only the inputs you are using and label them appropriately (so it's easy to switch between my TiVo, DVD player, TV and cable box, and hide the other inputs)
There's a zillion other settings that I haven't figured out all of yet, but most are relatively intuitive (except PnP, which has me baffled so far).
I got the flat panel LCD because it uses less power and generates less heat than a plasma, and won't burn-in (although plasmas have improved). The screen doesn't reflect as much, and has a wide viewing angle.
For viewing from about 6 feet, the 40" size is perfect.
Lots of other things I could say about this TV, but it's all good. You can't go wrong with this model. Also highly rated in Consumer Reports, the consumer's bible...
Amazon shopping tip: Amazon offers price protection for 30 days from date of purchase. After you buy this, put it in your cart again and check your cart regularly for a month. The price goes up and down almost daily. When you go to your cart you will be notified of price changes. If it goes down, grab the phone and call for a credit. I paid $1630 a couple of weeks ago and the price has gone as low as $1450, so I've gotten $180 in refunds. Delivery and unpacking are free, and combine with excellent customer service, making buying from Amazon a no-brainer.
I'm delighted with Sony and Amazon for this purchase.
update 3/2009: Forget my last comment. Amazon no longer, sadly, offers 30 day price protection on purchases. Advice now is to go to camel camel camel dot com (leave out the spaces). A great site for tracking Amazon price history.

BRAVIA V-Series televisions are where Full HD 1080 starts. Two sizes, 46" and 40" diagonally, define what Full HD 1080 (1920 x 1080) televisions are all about. Performance functions like Live Color Creation (featuring the WCG-CCFL backlight) and the 10-bit panel display assure picture quality and performance. The BRAVIA Engine EX full digital video processing system includes DRC-MF v1.0 technology, which upconverts 480i video signals to a 1080p equivalent. DMeX ready allows connection to the new DMeX (Digital Module Expander) called the BRAVIA Internet Video Link module. And BRAVIA V-Series TVs are big on ease of operation. BRAVIA Theatre Sync offers one-button command for time consuming control functions and signal path routing. And we didn't forget about connectivity. How about two 1080/24p and 1080/60p input capable HDMI connections, two HD Component YPbPr inputs, and a PC input, just to name a few. Add a sparkling new black picture frame design, quiet operation, and you have BRAVIA V-Series HD LCD TVs.

Motorola Signal Booster 2-Port BDA-S2 Cable Modem TV HDTV Amplifier Review

Motorola Signal Booster 2-Port BDA-S2 Cable Modem TV HDTV Amplifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the 2-port version of the Motorola Signal Booster, combining that product's excellent 15 dB cable/antenna drop amplifier with a 2-port splitter so you can use it with both a digital cable (HDTV) signal and a cable modem without having to buy a separate splitter.
So who needs one of these things? Anyone who is having difficulty receiving a consistent cable TV or cable modem signal is a candidate for this amp, but first check with your cable company to confirm that they have done all they can, in terms of getting high quality cables and splitters into your home. If they've done that, and you still notice frequent outages of your cable internet service, or pixelated (distorted) images on live or recorded TV shows from cable, then you may very well need a drop amp like this one.
The amplifier is particularly helpful if you are splitting a cable signal coming into your house to multiple rooms for multiple TV feeds (and this is perfectly legal to do, per the Cable Act of 1992). Any time you split a cable signal, you lose approximately 3 dB (decibels) of signal strength. Split a signal enough times and it can cause you to lose your cable modem feed or get sporadic distortion on your digital cable channels. Insert a cable amplifier like this into your cable feed right where it enters the home and it will boost the signal enough to survive multiple splits and, in most cases, will allow you to enjoy a glitch free cable TV signal throughout your home.
Why is this amp's "two-way" or "bi-directional" feature important? A two-way feed is necessary in order to support a cable modem (upload/download) and to support interactive cable services such as PPV (pay per view).
This amp won't work miracles. Again, always check your incoming signal, cable and connector quality first. But if you've done all that and are still having trouble, this little cable signal amp can be a real life-saver. It also works fine for OTA (over the air) HDTV signal distribution, but only if you're starting with a decent quality signal to begin with. A full review of the Motorola Signal Booster is available on Big Picture Big Sound's web site.

10" Digital Photo Frame w/TV Tuner (Black) Review

10 Digital Photo Frame w/TV Tuner (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been longing for a small size TV for quite a while. I first saw this one on my friend's office desk, and the image and sound quality were excellent!
I did research and eventually I got the same one for myself. Love the flat, wide LCD screen and the frame with sleek, black finish (The pictures here do not do good to its actual look and feel. ). The design is simplistic, yet very modern. It looks more like a photo frame than a TV which usually has that bulky look and feel. When I put it on the desk in my study room, it fits in instantly. And it is almost zen-like to watch such high definition digital TV images on a flat screen in a desk setting.
With antenna alone, I get about 60 channels. I am very happy about that. The wide screen TV images and the sound quality are excellent. It can also be hooked up with cable plug-in. I also play digital photos on it with music in the background when I don't watch TV.
I actually concentrate better with a little bit sound in the background. The digital images and sound relaxes me, yet is not as intrusive as the big screen TV in my living room. It doesn't have to draw all my attention to it, and I won't miss anything funny either. Work or study gets more fun!

Terk HD-TVS Slim-Profile Outdoor HDTV Antenna Review

Terk HD-TVS Slim-Profile Outdoor HDTV Antenna
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had previously purchased the Terk Amplified Indoor HDTV antenna, somehow believing the word "amplified" meant that I would have better reception. It worked well when you could get it arranged well, usually this meant getting it as near the ceiling as I could manage and pointing it out a window, which worked great . . . when you could hold it there. It would not pick up many channels without reorienting, at one point it was even used with a cable running to another room just to get better reception. After purchasing a new LG 42" HDTV for the living room, I knew I'd need something more capable.
I was immediately interested in the Terk HD-TVS Slim Profile antenna just for its looks--it literally looks like no other antenna I've seen. Still, I was of a mind to be cautious after the previous experience with a Terk product and kept looking. Most of the higher rated outdoor antennas I saw were from Terk, so I came back to look it over once more. Other more typical antennas cost a lot less, but with my location and yard, I really wanted to get something mounted on the house; the roof at my home was still in the process of being renovated, and I didn't want to mar the fresh work by mounting it there when it was done either, that meant that I would likely be mounting it high on an outer wall. Once I had decided that, I have to be honest that I had decided upon the HD-TVS just for its looks alone. I could only envision the larger, forked antennas as looking tacky on the side of my home.
When it arrived I decided to try a quick test by replacing the indoor amplified antenna that had required so much waving around. Just setting this thing on the floor of the bedroom, I immediately managed to tune every local channel. The antenna is actually very light, probably a lot lighter than you think. It is roughly the same size as a DirecTV dish but about half the weight. Like many other users here, I consulted antennaweb.org for a good location, and now the antenna sits just beside a chimney under an awning. It took a couple of additional tilts in order to lock in a strong signal on two stations which are at the same angle from my house, as a bit unexpectedly, when adjusting for one, the other dropped just under 50% strength, but as of this writing I'm pulling in every local station at excellent strength. My place is in a rural area with LOTS of trees so I had been concerned about this after reading another review here, but with local stations between 20.7 and 28.3 miles away I'm thrilled with the reception. Best of all I don't look like a kook with a short wave radio in my house. I may never notice when analogue stations get pulled from the air, just because the DTV signal is so excellent with this antenna, highly recommended.

Philips PHDTV3 Indoor Amplified UHF/VHF/FM/HDTV Antenna Review

Philips PHDTV3 Indoor Amplified UHF/VHF/FM/HDTV Antenna
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this indoor antenna after trying the Terk 5 and a RCA indoor antenna. All claim to be able to recieve HDTV signals. Neither the Terk 5 nor the RCA could even find one digital channel. Then I decided to try the Philips indoor antenna and on the first try my TV found 17 digital channels in San Jose!!
The reception is pretty good. Placement is key so try different places. I live in an apartment and I found a spot for it. Reception is very sensitive. One inch here and there makes all the difference. But once the antenna can lock onto a digital channel the picture quality is superb.
Analog reception is mediocre and it does as well as the rest. Nothing to write about.

RCA Indoor / Outdoor Tv Antenna Review

RCA Indoor / Outdoor Tv Antenna
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This antenna is a good, easy to install indoor (don't go there--the gain is too weak) outdoor choice for those living in urban or suburban areas and wanting to pick up over the air, digital signals. The small size and light weight make it very easy to assemble and install. I receive all the Portland digital OTA signals, and signal strength ranges from average to very good.
For outer suburban areas to rural areas, it's a marginal to poor choice. It is also a marginal to poor choice for those wishing to watch traditional analog VHF/UHF channels. I receive a better picture on analog channels with my plain old passive "rabbit ears."
If you live in a hilly area, still have a lot of analog channels on the air, or live more than 10-20 miles away from tv transmitters, do yourself a favor and get a larger antenna. However, if you have a strong signal, and watch mostly digital channels, this is a good budget choice.

TERK FDTV2 Omni Directional Passive Flat Digital HDTV Antenna (Black) Review

TERK FDTV2 Omni Directional Passive Flat Digital HDTV Antenna (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this item because of the price, design and reviews from amazon members. I had to return the item because it did not work for my application. I live in an apartment complex and most people have large antennas fixed to their balconies. Now I know why; because these little ones don't work well in apartment complexes where there are tall buildings blocking signals. Also buyer, notice that if your tv does not have a digital tuner, you will need to purchase a digital receiver box that goes between your tv and this antenna. Besides the antenna not working for me, the channels I did receive were top-grade HDTV. The coaxial cable is fixed to the unit and fits into a coaxial plug into your tv. The unit is easy to mount to your wall or use the stand provided. The appearance is outstanding; shiny, sleek and black with aluminum trim on the sides. For the price I would buy this if I had a better signal and I wasn't being blocked by other tall apartment buildings.
